Pet peeve IV

It bugs me when people say "my husband & best friend," meaning the same person. Even worse when it's a 50-year-old woman who's a 3rd wife & only married for a couple of years. Don't you have someone you've known since high school? an old roommate or colleague? For heaven's sake, who do you talk to about your husband? My husband is my husband, and my best friend is my best friend.

Risible but not as pathetic is the "my mother is my best friend" crowd.

My husband is about #9 if I were ranking friends. Higher up is someone I haven't even seen for about 12 years. I love him, I love him intently, but I love him partly because he is not my best friend.
