Jacques Rivette

My sister, then in her teens, and I were in London, & for some reason decided to go to a movie, with our elderly Tante Ilse, & for some reason chose Celine and Julie Go Boating, which I liked more than I expected, given that I mostly only like movies with a car chase, & which infuriated Varda & Ilse.

I thought of this when I saw that Rivette died the other day. I never saw another film of his—I came back from Europe and returned to my Western ways. I guess it's homage to Rivette & his forceful quietness that I liked a film so outside my usual taste.
